Curriculum Goals
Our curriculum and programmes are based on the Nurturing Early Learners (NEL) Framework that guides the development of quality kindergarten programmes in Singapore.
At MK, we believe preschool children are joyful, curious, active and competent learners and they play, learn and grow with others in a diverse and multi-cultural community. They are keen to make sense of the world around them, and they learn best through active learning.
We strive to make learning authentic and relevant for your child through activities with a distinctive Singapore flavour. This helps nurture your child’s:
-
Confidence and Social skills,
-
Literacy and Numeracy skills, and
-
Bilingualism in English and their Mother Tongue Language (i.e. Chinese, Malay and Tamil languages).
HI-Light Programme
Our HI-Light programme is designed to support the holistic development of children. It focuses on nurturing positive values, social and emotional skills and learning dispositions alongside acquisition of knowledge and skills. The children will develop their confidence and competence in the following learning areas through an integrated approach:
-
Aesthetics and Creative Expression
-
Discovery of the World
-
Health, Safety and Motor skills development
-
Language and Literacy
-
Numeracy
Starlight Literacy Programme for English and Mother Tongue
In MK, we believe that language learning is a dynamic and ongoing process, beginning in infancy and early childhood and continuing through their schooling years. In early childhood, we focus on developing children’s listening and speaking skills. Starlight’s active, interactive approach helps to nurture children’s interest in learning languages.
We will use Big Books, songs, rhymes and games to help your child to:
-
develop listening, speaking and early literacy skills,
-
enjoy English and their Mother Tongue Language (MTL) (i.e. Chinese, Malay or Tamil language),
-
communicate with confidence, and
-
learn about local customs and traditions.
Weeks of Wonder (WoW) Projects
In MK, the children will be participating in one Weeks of Wonder (WoW) project per term. In a year, children complete 2 WoW projects in English and another 2 in their Mother Tongue Language (MTL). Children will work together with their friends on a topic of their choice.
Through WoW projects, children learn how to:
-
make their own decisions,
-
develop problem-solving, process and investigative skills,
-
collaborate with one another, and
-
communicate effectively in English and their MTL.
Through the process of finding answers to their own questions, WoW projects allow children to:
-
experience the joy of self-motivated learning,
-
build their confidence, and
-
strengthen their learning dispositions or positive behaviours and attitudes towards learning.
